They’re shaving for me…
Reading the words on my CT scan report - lung cancer unless proven otherwise - were the scariest words I’ve ever read. My first thought was, I won’t get to see my babies grow up.
That was a month ago and it’s been a whirlwind since then for me and my family as we navigated through the unknown for answers and made a plan.
Things moved quickly with biopsies and more scans for a final prognosis. On Thursday 29 February I was diagnosed with stage 2 Non Hodgkins lymphoma. It was found accidentally in my chest and now I’m undergoing treatment.
I’m grateful to have an excellent medical team who has been by my side since day one educating me and supporting me during this terrifying time.
Third week into my first cycle and I’m starting to lose my hair. It’s real and my illness can now be seen by all.
There’s very little I get to control right now and with my young family, losing my hair is going to be hard for my kids to understand. So we’re going to make this a little bit fun. My husband Steve suggested he and our son Hugo shave their heads with me and raise money for the Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF) which supports research for ALL cancers. They’ve given over $180 million in research grants and have 86 research projects underway right now.
Cancer can be a killer but research is the key for prevention, early detection and cures.
